License status on the edge device
Every edge device shows its current license state in the device UI and in the Portal. Use this page to know what each state means and how long a demo will keep running.
Where to find license status
Section titled “Where to find license status”- Open the device’s detail view — on the edge device’s own UI, or the matching device view in the Portal. The license state is shown as a status pill/card on that view; both the cloud and edge SPAs render the same state.
- The License state is one of three:
- Demo — the runtime is operating in trial mode.
- Activating — an auto-activation request is in flight (a synthetic banner state surfaced while activation runs).
- Activated — a valid license is installed.
Demo countdown
Section titled “Demo countdown”When the device is in Demo state, the License card displays a countdown showing how long the demo session will keep running.
Activation events in the activity log
Section titled “Activation events in the activity log”Activation and license steps are written to the device activity log under the license target. Examples of the wording you will see include:
License activation status: not configuredLicense service reports license expired ('<process>'); runtime will stop.Runtime stopped: license expired (process '<process>')
Look for these entries when diagnosing a license problem.
Activate the device
Section titled “Activate the device”- Assign the activation token to the device from the Portal (the token is sent to the device as an edge action; the device then runs the activation automatically). The activation key is not typed into a field on the device’s own license card.
- The device saves the token and triggers auto-activation while it is online.
- Wait for the state to move from Activating to Activated.
